Bedford Borough Council currently has 7 Labour Party members. Although none were elected in a Ward within the N E Bedfordshire constituency, they are our elected representatives on this Council.

Biggleswade Town Council has 5 elected Labour Party members. This Group, led by David Albone, is active in attempting to improve provision of services and amenities for the every-day person - such as provision of a central Community Centre. Environmental and ethical issues - such as Fair Trade - are constantly being emphasised at council meetings.

Many other councils exist within this constituency - Town and Parish Councils. It is traditional that many of the Parish Councils in NE Beds are non-political - elected members who stood as 'Independent'. However, among these councillors are many with views and values similar to or the same as those of Labour Party.

Central Bedfordshire Council has no Labour Party members. However, with regard to Health provision, Ann Brown, a much respected Mid-Beds District Council member for years, is a patient representative for both Bedfordshire and Luton LINks (Local Involvement Networks).
